What are the decorative text boxes with the first letter of a sentence called?

You know the kind that they used in Shakespearean sonnets... I cannot find the word for it anywhere! They usually contain the first letter of the sentence in Old English typefont with some kind of vine like design behind it... Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about!
