Can someone give advice on visual disturbances?

I have had a very odd visual problem for I would say about 10 years now. No, I haven't been to an eye doctor, although I know I probably should. But until then, can anyone tell me what would cause me to see what appears to be a million little squiggly white things in my vision when I look at anything very bright outside? It looks alot like if you look at something under a microscope....almost like I am looking at some really tiny bacteria or something and it completely covers my entire eyesight. Any ideas?
